One of the most important rooms in a home is the living room. That is where we spend the most time together with the family, especially when it is connected to the kitchen. Resting after work, chatting over board games, watching favourite TV programmes — quiet evenings spent with loved ones immediately come to mind. It is also where we most often invite guests; it is a real showcase of our houses and apartments. For these reasons, it is so important that arranging the living room is truly well thought out. The most important principles are that it should harmonise with the other rooms in your sanctuary, and that it should be as cosy, functional and perfect for relaxing as possible. Creating such a space is not the easiest of tasks, but there are certain tips that make it simpler.
Decide on a specific style
Consistency is extremely important when it comes to arranging interiors; the absence of chaos will certainly have a positive effect on how you perceive your surroundings and therefore on your well-being. Of course, settling on just one style is not always so simple. If your taste is quite varied, you should think about an eclectic style — there you can combine elements from several interior design styles. It must not be random, though; the whole should be as harmonious as possible. Think about which colours, aesthetics and patterns suit you best. What do you above all expect from your living room? What will you most often spend time there doing? That should make the task easier. Do you expect simplicity, or are you drawn to rich interiors? Is it more important to you that the room is furnished in a modern way and follows the latest trends, or are you more of a sentimentalist for whom it matters that the room has soul?
Go for keepsakes
As mentioned above, the living room is the room where you spend the most time with your family. Nothing will make it as cosy as family keepsakes of all kinds. It does not matter whether your living room is small or huge and finished very plainly. If you place in it accessories that remind you of past trips with loved ones or time spent on various occasions, your living room will become a cosy place you simply want to return to. The best idea here is, of course, family photographs or priceless mementoes whose meaning you cannot put into words. Moderation is of course important here — after all, you do not want your home to be a kind of museum!
Focus on your individual needs. When furnishing a living room, the most important thing is that it meets all your needs. Whether you will need a dining table or a coffee table there depends on whether this is the room where you will host gatherings with your closest friends and family, or whether the kitchen will be enough for that. Do you want to watch your favourite series there, or do you think the bedroom is a more suitable place for that? Think about the atmosphere you want to create. Remember that one of the factors that can most change the character of a room is lighting, so do not be afraid to go all out with it. It is also worth decorating the walls so that they are not empty — these can be paintings, posters, the family photographs mentioned earlier, or simply plants. One thing is certain: a properly organised space is the key here!
